The Salesians came to Sulthan Bathery in 1995 invited by the Bishop of Kottayam Diocese to begin an Educational Institution that would cater to youth of Wayanad. Their intention was to set up initially a Technical School that would provide Vocational training so that youth who could not complete their studies could learn skills that would procure them a job to make a living. Thus the Salesians in 1996 set up the Technical school with various technical trades( Motor Mechanics, Welding, Electronics, Electricals and basic Computer). Within two years several youth demanded for plus two education in the parallel stream along with the Technical Training. The number of students attending these courses went up to over 600. There was immediately the need felt to start Distant Education programs under the Mahatma Gandhi University – Off Campus to cater to youth to do formal degree studies. Thus Off-Campus center was registered and approved unde the MG University. Graduate programs like: BBA, MBA, MCA, were the first subjects. Seeing the Demand, the College Management built the present College Building to accommodate the rising number of students. The Building was completed in 2002.
In the year 2005, the need was felt to begin Regular Graduate programs under Calicut University under the Self-Financing stream. Thus the college went for formal regular college courses and gradually the MG. Off-campus programs were amalgamated into the Calicut University courses.
The First Principal of the regular College was Prof. George Abraham a retired English Professor from St. Mary’s College. The College grew steadily for the next 10 years and in 2015 was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with “B” Grade. This was a great leap in the growth of the College as the college has the credit of being the first Accredited Un-Aided Arts & Science college in the whole of Calicut University.
Today in 2020, the college offers 9 Undergraduate and 4 Post Graduate Programs. Career Oriented programs include Distance Education Programs of Bharathiar Univeristy along with the already running Technical courses. The Infrastructural facilities were doubled with the construction of a New Block to accommodate the additional Courses. Other facilities like Play grounds, Gymnasium, large Parking area, Open grass meadow, Hostels, Canteen and Fresh water pond were constructed during the course of these years.
The college has rendered remarkable service in the field of forming young citizens with values, knowledge, skills and leadership skills. This is being done with specific Vision and Mission following the Educational Method of St. John Bosco.
